An artist expresses themselves primarily through their work. Sometimes, however, they are also invited to take on the role of a speaker – whether during a collector's visit to their studio, a guided tour at an opening, a panel discussion, or an acceptance speech at an awards ceremony. In all these situations, they often leave their comfort zone.

At Artist's Hero, we want to help artists expand this zone and grow not only in their visual language, but in their verbal expression as well. The ability to communicate effectively and present oneself professionally not only shapes their personal brand, but also significantly influences their success on the path to a professional art career.

With this goal in mind, we partnered with the Speaking Heroes platform, and on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, experienced lecturer Denisa Žideková guided us through the historically first public speaking workshop for visual artists – we are delighted that artists Ema Kissová, Emma Štěpánová, and Tomáš Skála joined us. We were also joined by colleagues from Capexus, a company that creates modern offices, which has long recognized the power of art in the workplace and to whom we owe the invitation to organize the workshop in one of the most beautiful offices in the Czech Republic.

Over the course of 3 hours with lecturer Denisa, we had the opportunity to practice micro-skills in posture, eye contact, and smiling for a confident entrance onto the stage. Equally important were exercises for working with the voice, emotions, and gestures to establish a deep connection with the audience, while a key part of the workshop was the "bow and arrow" methodology for delivering the key ideas of our speech.

The workshop helped me gain the key to how to structure my public speaking, how to work with myself on both verbal and non-verbal levels to maintain the audience's attention and trust. The entire workshop took place in a relaxed atmosphere where we actively and playfully tried out various speaking situations, including making mistakes, and at the same time we received individual feedback from lecturer Denisa — what works, what doesn't work, and what to focus on the most.
